Micro, Player Development, Travel Programs

WSA Micro Soccer Program (ages 5-8):
WSA will hold the Micro Soccer Program three separate training sessions in the fall, winter, and spring. The Fall session will start in September.  The winter session will start in January and the Spring session will begin in April.  All sessions run for approximately six (6) weeks every Saturday morning.

The Micro Soccer Program is an introduction to the sport of soccer with emphasis on fun and building individual skills. Training sessions are offered in the fall, winter, and spring. The program is run by a Nationally Licensed Coach and supervised by licensed coaches from the Olympic Development Program (ODP) or former professional players. Additionally, facilitators (volunteer parents trained through a youth soccer module / seminar prior to the start of the season) assist each session. The program is designed to help children experience the fun of playing soccer using small-sided soccer games and developmental appropriate soccer activities. While they are having fun with the planned activities, they will unknowingly develop the skills needed to play soccer for when they are older. Sessions follow a specific activity plan each week so the kids are not only having fun but learning the soccer skills needed at an older age.

WSA Player Development Program (ages 9-10):
The 3rd Grade/U8 PDP runs mid September thru July. There are practices twice a week, monthly jamborees during the winter at the WSA facility against travel teams, and three summer tournaments. The second year 4th Grade/U10 PDP players return to train twice a week from mid September thru April, play in monthly indoor winter jamborees, and will progress to play on a summer Travel team or tournament team from May thru July.

PDP is for the competitive player who has the desire and commitment to practice at a higher level than recreational soccer. This two-year comprehensive progressive training program for 3rd and 4th graders is designed to help the individual player develop their technical skills and prepare them for travel soccer. PDP runs from September to July and with practices twice a week. All PDP players will compete in monthly jamborees at the WSA indoor facility against travel teams invited from neighboring towns. In the first year, the player will have training both outdoors and indoors with the month of April off. The second year the player will progress to either a travel or tournament team. Team placement will be decided by the coaching staff with input from players and parents. All players are required to participate in all PDP training sessions as well as additional team training practices. Coaching is provided by hired certified coaches, NYSWYSA ODP staff, and former pro players with assistance from USSF certified WSA coaches.

WSA Travel Program (ages 11-19):
Travel runs from November through early August. Travel tryouts are held each September for U11 - U16 players.  U16 - U17 teams will have tryouts in November or December.

WSA Travel is for those desiring a higher level of competition. Team players are grouped according to skill level evaluated at September Tryouts. Practices are typically held once or twice a week. Indoor soccer training runs November-May. In May, teams move outside to practice and compete in the Rochester District Youth Soccer League (RDYSL) weekly games. Teams will also participate in local weekend tournaments and possibly non-local tournaments. All games and tournaments typically end in early August. Players have most of the month of August off.
