Webster Soccer Association is proud to be hosting our 21st annual soccer tournament. With an anticipated participation by 300 plus teams and over 5,000 youth soccer players the Lakefront Classic/Empire Cup will bring one of New York State’s largest youth soccer events to the western New York area. Again this year, we join forces with Empire United Soccer Academy and feature premier flights for most age groups. Whether your team is highly competitive or just beginning, we have a division for you.

NEW THIS YEAR:

• GOTSOCCER - the Lakefront Classic/Empire Cup has partnered with GotSoccer to provide our teams with an enhanced experience. Teams will find an easier application process, better division placement, rankings and points awarded for teams entered in the Empire Cup Divisions.
• TWO NEW LIGHTED TURF FIELDS - In addition to the numerous well groomed grass fields, we have added 2 brand new (2011) lighted stadium turf fields to our field list.

Webster is just 15 minutes northeast of Rochester, NY located on the southern shore of Lake Ontario.

Every team is guaranteed three matches. There will be one or two matches played on Saturday and one on Sunday (RDYSL/Monroe County and other local teams may play on Friday evening). U8-U10 will receive individual participation awards for each player. U11-U19 top teams will play championship matches on Sunday. Individual awards will be presented to the first place and runner-up in each age group.

The New York State West Youth Soccer Association is very pleased to announce that we will be hosting a National Youth License (NYL) course, our first in several years.

The NYL is a national licensing course and is available to anyone who is at least 18 years of age and possesses a current USSF D License. This 5 day course is designed to provide club DOC’s, youth coaches, physical education teachers, and soccer administrators with the knowledge to successfully structure soccer environments for children between the ages of 4 and 12. The course is often regarded as the most beneficial and important of the national-level courses.

This course will begin with a Friday evening lecture and end with practical testing. Three full days of theoretical (classroom) and practical (field) information and demonstration fill out the remainder of the schedule. Both age appropriate players and candidates will participate in the practical portion of the course.

This course will be held indoors, so weather will not be an issue! The playing surface is a spacious 40yd x 70yd field turf surface.

Uniform Pick Up:January 12 for Session A and March 1 for Session B from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at the WSA Indoor Complex.
All returning players from the Fall 2011 will use existing uniform. New players to the program will receive a jersey, shorts and socks.

 Facilitators Training: Training will be available Spring 2012 

We ask for active participation of all parents in our programs. Volunteers are needed to help facilitate and distribute uniforms. Facilitators must attend a free US Youth Soccer U6-U8 Youth Soccer Coaching Module and then are responsible for the overseeing of the activities, games, substitutions, etc. When registering online, please indicate your willingness to help. In addition to parent Facilitators, older WSA players may also volunteer to help as Facilitators.

Malcolm Kersey was selected by the New York State West Youth Soccer Association Award’s Committee as the recipient for the the 2011 Season.  Coach Kersey was presented the award at the Rochester Airport Marriott Hotel on Saturday, November 12th.  He was nominated by his BU12 Dynamo players and their parents following their New York State Cup Championship last summer.  Coach Kersey is currently the BU13 & Bu16 Dynamo Coach and is the Webster Soccer Association’s Director of Coaching for ages: U6-U10 and the director of the very successful Webster Soccer Association’s Micro Soccer Program and Player Development Program.  Malcolm has been coaching various teams since 1984.  He holds a USSF B license and participates in various soccer opportunities throughout the year.  Malcolm’s love for the game and the kids shines through his coaching techniques by promoting sportsmanship, responsibility, accountability to all the players he coaches.

Per Deb Carpenter, WSA Director of Micro Soccer U5-U7, “After spending the past 9 years involved in the Micro Soccer program, when I took over as Director last year I really needed help facilitating so I decided to reach out to the student-athlete as Malcolm Kersey had done in the past and the response has been overwhelming!  These student facilitators make up a third of my facilitator roster.  Without them I’m not sure what would have happened with the Micro Soccer program.”  Most of the student facilitators have participated in the Micro Soccer program and then continued on through the Player Development Program and now participate in either premier soccer programs or travel soccer programs through WSA or other clubs.  “The fact that this many student-athletes have returned to help facilitate speaks volumes about the Micro Soccer program itself and the characteristics of these student-athletes.  Some of them stay and help out for more than one session per morning with a few even participating in up to 3 sessions, meaning they are spending their entire morning and part of the early afternoon volunteering.  I find that amazing!”

Regardless of the weather, these volunteers showed up ready to facilitate.  These student facilitators were so competent and confident that more often than not they were asked to lead a field themselves.  Many participated in the preseason facilitator training and were well prepared each week by reading the lesson plans and implementing them on the field.  They were energetic and excited to be working with the children and their enthusiasm for sharing their soccer skills added to the experience for the young Micro Soccer players.

“I just loved watching the interactions between the student facilitators and the young players” adds Deb Carpenter.  “I’m not sure who had more fun!  These student facilitators really embraced being role models for the young players.  It was a joy to see!”

Cortland, NY - This past weekend (June 3-5, 2011), our Dynamo Elite Soccer Academy Boys Under 12 team competed in the NYS West State Cup competition, which is part of U.S. Youth Soccer’s National Championship Series. In early matches, the team defeated premier teams from Buffalo and Rochester. In the lead going into the final day of competition, Dynamo tied Syracuse to capture the prestigious State Cup Championship. In the three state matches, the team scored six goals and allowed only one goal against, achieving two shutouts. As state champions, Dynamo ESA BU12 advances to U.S. Soccer’s Region One Finals in Lancaster, PA. The competition takes place at the end of the month (June 30 – July 4, 2011) featuring state champions from Virginia to Maine.

Coached by Malcolm Kersey and Jon Bay the team consists of fourteen members with the majority of the players coming through Webster Soccer Association’s Micro Soccer and Player Development Programs. The team also has players from Hilton, Greece, Fairport and Pittsford.

This is a great group of dedicated, hard working young players that have been training three days a week since November. They bonded together from the start, and have supported each other and are having a great deal of fun. They deserve everything they have achieved” states Coach Malcolm Kersey.
